Tutorial: Altering Belt Buckles on Children's Clothing

September 15, 2011

We received these cargo shorts as a gift for lil man. I like the shorts, but I didn't like the original buckle D-ring on the attached belt. Anyone that's ever changed a diaper should know this D-ring closure is not for children's clothing. It's too much of a hassle when your baby is wiggly and trying to run away during diaper changes. So, I made an alteration to the belt.

This alteration is simple and easy. Here's what you need:

  • Velcro
  • Seam ripper
  • Sewing machine or needle/thread
  • Scissors
  1. Use the seam ripper to remove the seams from around the d-ring
  2. Use the scissors to trim the velcro to the desired length
  3. Sew the velcro to the belt either using the sewing machine or do it manually with needle/thread if you don't have a sewing machine

And that's it!

Happy altering. ^_^
